Today in class we discussed mental disorders and leader ship. How they are a positive and Negative thing. Mental disorders can make it hard to be a leader because you do get distracted by your health or trying to focus on yourself. Does having a Narcissistic Personality Disoder affect your ability to led? I think that at some point NPD does has a bit of illisisons of a rank that can affect the decisions or even things that a leader would say. I beleive that its not right for psychiatrists to diagnose people in a higher power withou their consent.

The Assignment

How do we figure out how other people see us? What are the behaviors and traits of a person who is good at recognizing how others see them?

For me its hard sometimes to figure out how others see me but other times its very easy. I tend to read others very well because I listen to them and pay attention to their body language when certain things are said. When i then come back and describe them to others in their face they be very shocked. People tend to be very surprised when I describe them so well because they never think I’m paying attention. I’m the type of person who tend to be in my own worl half of the time. Some behaivors you’ll notice is that they tend to be very quiet and ask a lot of personal questions. They’ll say things that would throw you off track so they can see how you react. Sometimes they try and get politically or make funny jokes that aren’t funny. They could even be very quiet not speak about themselves and just listen to what ever you have to say.

Three times in my life I have chosen/had a chance to speak up about a problem.

  1. I have very bad asthma and there was this one time i had to speak for the asthmatic community to my class mates because some of them didn’t understand the dangers of smoking in school can do to a student with servere asthama like myself. I had to tell them that smoke inhalation to the lungs of an asthamtic can be serverely dangerous because it can cause a blockage in the lung and they will stop breathing. By then people would ask well “ why wont they use their inhaler or why won’t they just breathe.” Well as funny as they though them questions were, they were offensive. If an asthmatic could just breathe they would and their rescue inhaler wasn’t always enough and they would need medical attention.
  2. There was a time where there was a transgender male at my school and years before we would have this day for spirit week called “gender bender” day. This day people would dress ats the opposite gender. Our princple thought that day was very ignorant and students didn’t understand why. So I knew this person and he told me how he didnt mind that and he felt everyone was looking at them becasue he fekt he was stoping their fun. which wasn’t the case. So I explained to a few classmates how the situation could be perceived ignorant because we didn’t fully understand what their bidy was going through and we wanted to pretend to be them when they were actually going through it. Even though the studnet said he was okay with the situation, the principal want to make sure she had his mental state protected.

How did it go? Did your speech change anything? To what extent was your speech timely, relevant, clearly, and compelling? Was there any discrepancy between how you felt the speech went and how it was received?

  1. When I talked about asthama and told them how it cam be a disablity even though its not physical I received a lot of ignorant questions and comments. I knew sometimes people don’t understand what they say can come off ignorant. In the end I knew i did a very good job of hold my ground when talking to teenagers about asthma. I could tell they’ve learn something knew and kinda left with an understanding based of their question. I just feel asthma is so common and nit a lot people understand the severity of it. Asthma can kill people and I know this because I almost died from it.
  2. Talking about how gender bender day can be looked at as ignorant i did not like tye responses I got. People still weren’t understanding and I thought it was unfair. Teenagers only look at how it affects them and nit how it could affect someone else. Thats the common problem we have today with them. They don’t listen to understand but to get the topic over with. They didn’t understand how it was hurting him even though he said it was okay. They thought it was punishment but even though he said it was okay with him what if affect him in a way he was unaware of and thats what the principle was thinking about.

I feel my speeches were very relevant to topic at hand because in the play they talked diseases and the gay community and how those diseases affect the gay community. Also how that disease affects that community. How the way the dangerous of it it presented in the world. How that if knowledgable about they can protect themselves from it. I feel the way you present, listen, and react can help a situation always.

In the end i felt there were a few discrepency on how the speach went and how others took it. I think student start I was trying to be a smart ass and not actually help the situation when in fact I just wanted what was best for the student body as a whole. I wanted classmates to be educated on these kind of topics because its everyday an asthmatic gets sick from second hand smoke from walking down the street or LGBTQ community feeling that heterosexuals who say they support them are making fun of them. These things can physically and mentally hurt people. If people took that away from what I said I feel they learned something and if not they didn’t care to learn in the begginning.

In your opinion how true are the following statements about you?
• I generally have a better sense of right and wrong than those around me.

• I am generally more willing to stand up and fight for what’s right than those around me.
• I am as critical of others as I am of myself.

I feel the first Statement isn’t totally true for me because I feel i have diffent morals then those around me and my morals don’t always tend to be as nice as their. I believe in revenge to a certain extent, I beleive people derserve what they get good and bad. Also what you put into the world comes back. I feel I am more willing to stand up and fight for what is roght more than others because i have a more extrovert personally and would speak out when I see wrong doing. I think when something and wrong and whats right needs to spoken upon i would stand up for it. And no I am not critical on others more than myself. For someone extremely close to me yes, but not really. I always wont better for myself more than anyone else in the world and I feel that no one can do that better than me. So when it comes to being critical to others yes I’m very critical but not how I am on myself.

Raising awareness for important diseases should not be done in negative way because it can hurttge person that does have it. You have to put the facts into the people faces so they can be away. You have to project it to the whole and just not the common area because it could be everywhere. When you choosing the person to present these diseases you want someone who isn’t arrogant. You can present these things anonoyomous by going through someone or another platform. This can protect the person identity but also hurts that persons credibility. When doing this we can educate the people around us and make the issue known to everyone. Something very inaffective is not showing evidence to share the issue at hand. Doing that is not giving the proper information for the person. What also matter is the motoves of the person who is the head of presentation. What if the community doesn’t know what is going on ? when presenting do they need to be included in the issue or have the disease to speak on it? Are they shoving views and not helping the situation? They have to listen to others view points and not just be a dictator. If they listen to others it can make their argument better. Ned has an important message for mostly roght reasons but have a problem with listening. Ned had this state of mind that he knew more than he actually does, especially speaking in a place where people aren’t able or comfortable to speak for themselves. Ned can’t soeak for someone else’s experiences.
